Worth passing on

My Growing Old Disgracefully online group picks up a lot of laughs and cartoons and shares them around. I don't pass on many of them, because I like to be original here, but these two are fun, and I especially endorse the message in the second one - that's exactly how I feel!

I like your little saying about your friends live in the computer. I've been thinking about that lately and concluded I spend more time with my computer friends than my local friends.

Yes, I think the same is happening to me and it worries me. I think we should be careful not to become isolated in the virtual world of the computer. As one gets older and less energetic, it is too easy to stay at home and not make enough 'real' human contact, which I know in my gut is necessary for a healthy mind and heart.

On the other hand, your very real friends can at least keep contact with you this way. No matter how energetic you feel, Judith, popping out to have a coffee at my house sin't really possible! I have a virtual coffee with you every day while sitting at my computer by putting my mug on the mat with your photo on it!

I guess on the positive side, we now have more friends because of the internet. I suspect many people are in the same boat otherwise these "social networks" wouldn't be popping up everywhere.

It certainly permits us to meet people that we may never have met and get a slant on lives and cultures way removed from our own.

Lee sums up the value and interest of blogging.
But "virtual" friends must never take the place of real ones

Fortunately, most of my real (as opposed to virtual) friends are also online, so when I can't visit with them, I keep in touch!

Hi from Manila.
You have great blog. I like reading blogs of those older than me. I am a 40 year old radiologist living in the Philippines.
